Bohemian Grove Presents : Marcellus Pittman 30/07/11

A night for automatic lovers of all things deep and electronic, from the outer reaches of Chicago house music and Detroit techno, to the deepest sounds of Berlin and everything in between. Featuring a blend of DJ sets and live performance with a real emphasis on the underground.

Once again, huge thanks to all in attendance at our previous event. Motor City legend Mike Huckaby was on top form providing us with 5 hours of underground nonsense. By all accounts he was as, if not, more excited than the crowd!
A lot of blood, sweat and tears went into making the party happen, but the responses and feedback we’ve received since make all the hard work worth while.

For our fifth instalment we welcome Marcellus Pittman…

When other children were playing combat with G.I. Joe action figures in the early 80’s, Detroit native Marcellus “Malik” Pittman was playing his radio at maximum volume, listening to the sounds of “the Wizzard” and the “Electrifying Mojo”, in addition to the jazz outputs of Rosetta Hines.
Marcellus began his DJ pursuits for college parties, wedding receptions, “old school parties” in the early 90’s. In 1993, he released his initial work of production with local Hip-Hop collective “Home Grown”.
Shortly thereafter, he released “Essential Selections, Vol. 1” on the Sound Signature label, headed by Theo Parrish. In 1998, Marcellus forged a working relationship with Rick Wilhite, Theo Parrish and Kenny “Moodymann” Dixon, collectively known as the 3 Chairs. As production artists and selectors, they have helped to define an integral part of the Detroit sound.Malik’s sound has been around the Detroit and surrounding areas, as well as internationally, spanning Canada, the UK, Germany, Japan and Paris.
His dedication to production ushered the discontinuation of his residency with Northern Lights in Detroit. He is currently heading his own label, Unirhythm, which has been responsible for some of our favourite releases in recent years.

As you will know by now, we have a tendency for changing venues from party to party, with Islington Mill being our previous choice. Much as we like to keep you on your toes, we feel that the Mill is the perfect setting for Bohemian Grove. It works so well on so many levels and for the time being we will most definitely be staying put.

Bohemian Grove is all about hearing good electronic music in friendly, comfortable surroundings with like minded people.
As you will know by now, we like to keep our parties intimate to ensure that the atmosphere is never compromised. Unfortunately we have had to turn a lot of people away at the last three events but rest assured we have no plans to move to any of the city’s bigger venues.

Islington Mill, James Street, Salford. 10pm – 5am… £10

Tickets available online at http://www.residentadvisor.net, physical tickets available at Piccadilly Records & Eastern Bloc, Oldham Street, Manchester…. Peace !
