Bohemian Grove Presents : Mike Huckaby 14.05.11

A night for automatic lovers of all things deep and electronic, from the outer reaches of Chicago house music and Detroit techno, to the deepest sounds of Berlin and everything in between. Featuring a blend of DJ sets and live performance with a real emphasis on the underground.

Firstly, a massive thanks to everybody who came out to our first event of 2011, I think everybody is in agreement that it was a rather special party.
Rick, Johnny and Damo spent the first half of the night warming up a very friendly crowd, followed by Underground Quality label boss DJ Jus-Ed who treated us to a 4 hour set of solid but soulful house music sprinkled with moments of techno and some choice classics. Very tasty stuff indeed.
It’s really great to see those regular faces amongst you that have supported us since our first outing in September last year and of course it’s always nice to see some new faces at the party.

Next up is Detroit heavyweight Mike Huckaby !

Tastemaker, Educator, Sound Designer, and Motor City Proponet. Mike Huckaby has done much for Detroit electronic music. The man behind the once legendary Record Time store has gathered an encyclopedic knowledge of music.
He’s one of those guys who knows all the roots and culture of electronic dance music. He’s a person who can see beyond the hype and divisions within the scene. Mike knows exactly what the music is.
He has been an integral part of Detroit’s rich musical output over the last 15 years, both as a producer and a DJ.
Huckaby’s two imprints, S Y N T H and Deep Transportation, have gained a reputation for quality deep music existing somewhere between house and techno, while he has also become one of the busiest remixers from Detroit in recent years adding his distinctive feel to tracks from Juan Atkins, Rick Wilhite, Deepchord, Vladislav Delay, Pole, Loco Dice, LoSoul, and Pacou to name but a few.

Aside from his career as a touring DJ and producer, Mike also teaches electronic music production,
namely at Detroit’s YouthVille center, where he has mentored young, enterprising Detroiters in the mysteries of the electronic musical arts. Kyle Hall got his start at YouthVille in Huckaby’s class.
When he’s not performing as a DJ, he’s giving demos on behalf of German software companies Ableton Live and Native Instruments. Mike Huckaby is certainly a very busy man!

We’ve been keeping a close eye on Mike’s movements for quite some time now and are extremely excited to have secured him for his first appearance in Manchester.

Bohemian Grove is all about hearing good electronic music in a friendly, comfortable atmosphere with like minded people.
As you will know by now, we like to keep our parties intimate to ensure that the vibe is never compromised. Unfortunately we have had to turn a lot of people away at the last two events but rest assured we have no plans to move to any of the city’s bigger venues.

As usual we like to shake things up and will be moving to yet another of the city’s hidden venues for our May party… all will be revealed closer to the event date 🙂

Tickets no available online at  www.residentadvisor.net/event.aspx?229252

They will also be available at the following outlets : Piccadilly Records/Eastern Bloc (Manchester City Centre)
